LakeMapper FAQs

LakeMapper is extremely accurate. In fact, we had to create algorithms to remove swimming pools, rivers, streams, oxbows and other waterbodies with which most of oursubscriber would not have an interest. In the case where LakeMapper has erroneouslylabeled a non-waterbody as a lake (flooded low area), the subscriber can flag the laketo be permanently removed.

LakeMapper was built for lake management professionals & suppliers, real estate professionals, landscapers, property managers, and land developers. Examples include professionals and companies that provide aquatic weed control services, fountains and aeration equipment, fishery and fish stocking services, dock builders/suppliers, dam maintenance, and realtors seeking properties that meet lake buyer criteria.

LakeMapper uses a proprietary process to identify lakes based on satellite images and calculate their location, perimeter, and area in acres. From there, we associate the landowner parcels that contain or surround the lake, along with their publicly available attributes, including owner name and address information, parcel zoning and use attributes, and parcel size and value data, if available.

A secondary process allows subscribers to reverse append email addresses associated with the parcel data. Reverse append data, where available, is not guaranteed for accuracy and is sourced from a third party.

Paul Langhorst,

LakeMapper Founder

Paul envisioned LakeMapper after working with several lake management professionals on the care and maintenance of their 24-acre lake near Belle, Missouri. As an entrepreneur, business development, and marketing professional, Paul is always looking for underserved markets. He realized that a searchable and selectable database of U.S. lakes and ponds could help lake management professionals, realtors, and other lake-focused businesses grow their business — and LakeMapper was born.

Prior to founding LakeMapper, Paul Langhorst co-founded GroupCast/SchoolReach in 2002. After a broken water main caused an unexpected school cancellation at his daughter’s school, Paul realized schools lacked a way to rapidly contact parents, and SchoolReach was born. This was well before the advent of Facebook, Twitter, and other rapid notification systems now used by schools.

SchoolReach quickly grew and eventually supported 10% of all U.S. K-12 schools, sending millions of school alerts and emergency announcements. SchoolReach was sold to SchoolMessenger in 2014.

In his spare time, Paul enjoys bass fishing, fly fishing, working on their lake property, and spending time with his wife Rose, family, grandkids, and lifelong friends.

Paul Langhorst is a graduate of the St. Louis University School of Business MBA program and the University of Missouri–St. Louis Business School.
